Academic Affairs Mission Statement

The Office of Academic Affairs holds primary responsibility for all academic programs and activities at the University. Led by the Vice President for Academic Affairs and responsible to the President, the office is responsible for providing:

  • Leadership in the planning, development, implementation, assessment, and improvement of all academic programs, thereby setting the academic direction of the University.
  • Coordination of the recruitment, evaluation, retention and renewal of faculty, including but not limited to responsibility for the University's promotion and tenure process.
  • Coordination of the recruitment, retention and graduation of a qualified and diverse student body.
  • Support for the academic activities of the University via the acquisition and allocation of funds for academic programs, the development of policies and procedures that support the operation of those programs, and the provision of information to faculty and staff relative to policies and procedures that govern the academic programs and affairs of the University.

Purpose Statements

  1. Set the academic direction of the University through the development, assessment, and improvement of academic programs. (University Strategic Directions: 1 and 4)
  2. Provide oversight of all processes related to the employment, evaluation, and retention of faculty. (University Strategic Directions: 4, 7, and 8)
  3. Ensure that faculty/staff development opportunities are provided and/or supported. (University Strategic Direction: 7)
  4. Coordinate the recruitment, retention, and graduation of qualified and diverse student body. (University Strategic Direction: 3)
  5. Acquire and strategically allocate financial resources for academic programs. (University Strategic Directions: 1 and 5)
  6. Provide oversight of the development of policies and procedures supporting academic programs. (University Strategic Directions: 1, 7, and 9)
  7. Ensure that faculty and staff are fully informed with regard to academic affairs at the University. (Strategic Directions: 2, 4, and 9)
