NGSCU FACULTY PARTICIPATE:
Dean Michael Bodri and Associate Professor Robert Fuller attended the
Council on Undergraduate Research’s “CUR Dialogues: The Art of Grantsmanship” in Washington, DC,
in March, 2007. According to Dr. Fuller, the individual contacts were extremely valuable.
He also learned how to put together a proposal and use input from the program officer to
obtain a higher level of funding to support his research. Dr. Fuller was recently selected
to attend the CUR Institute on Initiating and Sustaining Undergraduate Research Programs in
Ann Arbor, MI, May 23-25, 2007. Congratulations, Robert!
HUMANITIES:
Mentorship, Collaboration and Undergraduate Research in the Social Sciences and Humanities:
This CUR Institute will be held July 13-15, 2007, at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
This workshop will bring together teams of three to five faculty members and administrators
engaged in enhancing undergraduate research opportunities at their home institutions,
focusing on undergraduate research as faculty development, student-based inquiry and
institutional support structure. Faculty and administrators from disciplines throughout the
social sciences and humanities will spend the weekend discussing models of undergraduate
research, mentorship and collaboration; what "research" and "mentorship" mean in different
disciplines in the social sciences and humanities; assessing the value of undergraduate research;
and means of augmenting funding for undergraduate research internally and externally. For more
information, check out

GENERAL:
SOURCE (Symposium On Undergraduate Research and Creative Endeavors) will take
place on the campus of Elon University
on Saturday, April 28, 2007. This is the inaugural year for SOURCE, which envisions a “user’s group”
for those engaged in undergraduate research – both students and mentors. It is not a venue for
presentation of the product of research, but rather a forum for the discussion of the practice of
undergraduate research.
