Student Leadership Development Grants

The NGCSU Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa, the national leadership honors society, announces the 2004-2005 Student Leadership Development Grants Program.  The program offers grant opportunities for student organizations with the goal of enriching the leadership culture at NGCSU.  This current academic year, President Hansford has allocated $10,000 for the program from the NGCSU Leadership Initiative.

Goals: The program seeks to expand leadership education and development through projects that directly develop leadership, including 1) internal organizational leadership development activities; 2) collaborative organizational leadership development activities; and 3) outreach leadership development activities.

Program eligibility: NGCSU student organizations with official recognition.

Deadlines: Applications are due on October 18, 2004.  Notification of Awards will be on October 25, 2004.  Funds will be available on November 1, 2004.  Project Reports are due by April 13, 2005, including a presentation in the poster session on Honors Day.

Grant Requirement:  Proposals may not exceed 2 pages and must include a budget.  There will be a meeting for awardees of the Student Leadership Development Grant on October 22, 2004, at 12:30 p.m.  Attendance is required.  A follow-up report on the budget and a poster session presentation about the impact of the project on Honors Day, April 13, 2005 are mandatory.  Groups not fulfilling this requirement will be ineligible for one year for future grants, and the information will be forwarded to the SGA.

Assessment criteria: 1) How does the proposal achieve one or more of the grant program’s goals? 2) How will the proposal be implemented? (i.e., How realistic and meaningful are the project goals? What is the project’s timetable?) 3) What will the impact of the project be? (i.e., Who will benefit? Why is the project worth funding?) 4) Is the budget reasonable and appropriate? 5) How sustainable and replicable is the project? (i.e. Will it have a lasting effect on the organization/campus/community?) 6) Are there special considerations the committee needs to consider? (i.e. Should we be aware of any special restrictions? Is there matching funding? What are the consequences of partial funding?)

Proposals may not exceed 2 pages and must include a budget.  We must receive both an electronic submission  AND an identical hard copy submission to assure that proposals include the appropriate signatures.  Preference will be given to projects that include outside funding, where appropriate.  Funds will be distributed as equitably as possible.

Each proposal must be approved by the organization and signed by the Faculty Advisor and organization president.  Proposals must identify a Project Manager.  For collaborative projects each organization involved in the project must be listed.

Proposal should be submitted to Adrian Spencer (amspen7822@ngcsu.edu, NGCSU Box #7664), ODK Advisor, no later than 5:00PM on October 18, 2005.

Restrictions: Funds may not be used to purchase equipment.  Funds must be expended prior to the end of the current fiscal year.  Funds may not be used for food or beverages.  The Committee reserves the right to withdraw funding for projects that are not demonstrating progress and fail to submit required reports.
