STRATEGIC DIRECTION #9 - North Georgia College & State University will continue to provide a secure and supportive learning and work environment.

 

 

9.1       Goal:

The university will continue to provide safe facilities and procedures for the campus community.  

9.1.1     Action Plans:

 

  1. Review and update annually the Campus Safety Plan and Emergency Preparedness Plan.

 

  1. Review, update, and formalize safety inspection procedures and timetables, including tests of access control systems and fire alarms, lighting of parking lots, etc.

 

  1. Provide annual training for public safety officers.

 

  1. Engage the environmental health and safety officer to conduct semi-annual safety seminars on such topics as defensive driving and personal safety for students and employees.

 

  1. Review annually weapons and ammunition handling and storage procedures to ensure the Department of Military Science, the Athletic Department, and the Public Safety Office meet all federal and state guidelines.

 

9.2       Goal:

The university will implement an ongoing inspection of all physical facilities to address health, safety, and maintenance issues.

 

9.2.1     Action Plans:

 

  1. Review the mission and evaluate the capabilities of the Office of Plant Operations.

 

  1. Reorganize the Office of Plant Operations, as required, to meet campus expectations.

 

  1. Appoint a building liaison for each campus building and its surroundings.

 

  1. Improve preventive and routine maintenance procedures in order to be more responsive to campus needs.

 

9.3       Goal:

The university will serve as a community and regional model to promote heightened concern for the physical environment.

 

9.3.1     Action Plans:

 

  1. Develop and implement a landscape plan that features, low-maintenance, aesthetically and environmentally appropriate plants, with an emphasis on planting and marking native specimens.

 

  1. Using suggestions from the North Georgia College & State University Master Plan, develop a plan and timetable for transforming the central campus loop around the drill field into a pedestrian-only green space by spring 2002.

 

  1. Evaluate the accessibility and availability of adjacent properties to support the university mission.

 

  1. Revitalize the campus recycling program to increase student and staff participation and to increase the types of materials recycled on campus.
