Appalachian At-Promise Scholarship

The Georgia Appalachian Center for Higher Education, in partnership with area post-secondary institutions, has launched a financial aid scholarship program called the “Appalachian At-Promise Scholarship”.  The scholarship program is designed to encourage and assist students to attend any of our partner post-secondary institutions and to make college within reach for our Appalachian At-Promise youth.

Eligible students must be:

  • Legal residents of Georgia
  • First-time college students
  • Graduates from a GACHE eligible school

Targeted students:

  • First generation college attendees
  • Considered “at-risk” for not attending college
  • Accepted or applied to a GACHE partner college, technical college, or university
  • Have overcome significant obstacles to complete high school
  • Employed or significantly responsible for their own financial well-being

  1. Which Georgia post-secondary institutions offer the Appalachian At- Promise Scholarship? (additional colleges will be added as pledges are received)

    The following colleges, technical colleges, and universities offer a scholarship to students from the GACHE eligible schools:

  2. Who qualifies for the GACHE Appalachian At-Promise Scholarship? 

  3. Georgia public school students who graduate from one of the following 23 high schools: 

    Banks County HS, Cedartown HS, Calhoun HS, Chattooga HS, Commerce HS, Dade County HS, East Jackson HS, Elbert County HS, Fannin County HS, Franklin County HS, Gilmer HS, Gordon Central HS, Gordon Lee HS, Haralson County HS, Jackson County HS, LaFayette HS, Lumpkin County HS, Madison County HS, Murray County HS, Ridgeland HS, Rockmart HS, Sonoraville HS, Woody Gap HS.

  4. How do students apply for the Appalachian At-Promise Scholarship? 

  5. Students will apply through their high school GACHE contact (either the graduation coach, counselor, or principal).   They will (a) submit a 1-2 page  essay responding to these prompts:  “where I plan to be in five years and  how I plan to get there” and “what I have done to prepare for my future in  college and a career”.  They are asked to include their immediate educational plans,  career goals,  and extracurricular activities and employment during high school (if any); (b) submit their high school transcript; (c) include ACT/SAT scores (if available); (d) class standing (optional);  and (e) submit the entire package to their school contact by the deadline of March 1st of each year Each high school is allowed to submit only one student application per institution.
