Predator Beetle Lab

There’s A New (Beetle)Girl in Town:
Let me introduce myself, I’m Sarah Osicka, the new Lab Coordinator for NGCSU’s Predator Beetle Lab. I’m from Cleveland, Ohio and received my Bachelors of Science at Baldwin-Wallace College (Berea, OH). As an undergrad I conducted research on forest floor invertebrates of the Rocky River Metroparks. In the summer of 2007, I went to Ogden, UT to help with an insect survey on cottonwood trees through Northern Arizona University. I returned to Ohio and got my coffee house job back until I decided where to go next. I was looking into grad school for entomology and wanted to focus my research on the eradication of invasive species. Then I received an email about this position down in Georgia where I could create a beetle lab to combat against the hemlock woolly adelgid (HWA) and decided that was where I needed to be. Fortunately, Dr. Fuller agreed with that idea and I packed up and moved to Georgia along with my cat (Moly) and tarantula (Ling)…it seems the insect related nicknames have followed   : )

Besides my great interest in insects, the environment, and biology in general, I also enjoy hiking, bike riding, being outdoors, knitting, vegan baking/cooking, reading and traveling. I’ve been all throughout the U.S, Western Europe, and Ecuador and still have a growing list of places I would like to visit and explore. The first book to come to my head when I’m asked what my favorite is would be “Jitterbug Perfume” by Tom Robbins. I’m currently trying to visit every place in “50 hikes of Northern Georgia” and I hope to add kayaking and rock climbing to my hobbies this year.
