Alice Sampson DirectorDirector's Welcome

Welcome to the NGCSU Appalachian Studies Center. Georgia's official center for the study of Appalachia, as designated by the Georgia General Assembly (House Resolution 1258).

The center's mission and vision statements embody action and collaboration. We seek to engage in and respond to an area of the state that is struggling to adapt to intense growth and change.

A participant in community, state, and regional activities, the center represents a diverse set of interests and is involved in cultural preservation, economic development, tourism, environmental matters, health issues, and quality education for citizens.

As part of an institution of higher learning, the NGCSU Appalachian Studies Center is a real world lab for our students, faculty, and local residents, offering opportunities to learn and lead. The board is comprised of 45% faculty and staff, 40% community members, and 15% students.

If you are interested in partnering with our center or would like more information, please contact me at avsampson@ngcsu.edu, 706.864.1540, or asc@ngcsu.edu.
