Pedro Calderon de la Barca's masterpiece from the
Spanish Golden Age is re-imagined for a modern audience in
this new translation by Pulitzer Prize winning playwright
Nilo Cruz. Being born under the wrong star leads to a life
of imprisonment for the young prince Sigismund. In an effort
to determine whether his son will doom the crown, King Basilio
decides to test the prophecy against his son's free will.
His story intersects with that of Rosaura, a brilliantly
confused young woman searching for both the father that abandoned
her as a child and the man who dishonored her as an adult.
Re-examining themes explored in both dramatic and spiritual
texts over the centuries, Life is a Dream is a mixture of
swordplay, humor, philosophy, and freedom... .sewn together
by a prince's quest for redemption and a woman's adventure
to restore her lost honor. Life is a Dream is presented by
the NGCSU Student Theatre Guild through arrangement with
Dramatists Play Service.
