Settling In
The ISSO is here to help you in your adjustment to college, to NGCSU, to Dahlonega, and to the United States. Any questions or problems you have can be brought to the ISSO. When we don't have the answers, we'll try to find them for you without sending you all over campus.
But sometimes what's needed is a friendly face, someone who understands what it's like to be far from home without familiar sounds and smells, where people act in unaccountable ways and say incomprehensible things.
NGCSU has several student groups whose members want to help and who actively seek to make the transition to NGCSU easier and more positive than it might otherwise be. Getting involved with one or more of these organizations is a worthwhile investment.
The International Student Association (ISA) seeks to promote cross-cultural understanding at North Georgia by producing several annual cultural events for the campus and by offering a pleasant venue for learning about other cultures at its meetings. Members are F-1 students, permanent residents of the U.S., and U.S. citizens, some of whom have studied abroad.
Students of Caribbean Ancestry (SOCA) seeks to facilitate, integrate, and celebrate Caribbean cultures. The organization is open to all students.
Baptist Campus Ministries (BCM) is active in welcoming and supporting NGCSU's international students in a number of ways, often coordinating its efforts through ISA.
International students are encouraged to actively participate in organizations of interest to them here at North Georgia. More information can be found on the Student Life pages. |
