Transfer Students
Course Equivalents vs. Plans of Study
Transfer Students

When an undergraduate student who has attended a prior college has been accepted to NGCSU, his or her folder is brought to the Registrar's office for the credit to be evaluated. The Registrar's staff transfers the credit to the student's NGCSU transcript based on established course equivalencies. These equivalencies can be found on the site below.

   Course Transfer Equivalencies

The listing or exclusion of certain institutions and/or courses does not reflect the transferability of course credit. If students or advisors have questions, please contact the Registrar’s Office.

When the transfer evaluation is complete, the student is mailed a copy of his or her new NGCSU transcript. Advisors (and the student) can then view the transcript online in Banner.

When a student transfers to NGCSU with an earned Bachelor's degree, the transfer work is not posted to the student's NGCSU transcript. Other guides are available to assist advisors working with transfer students.

Course Equivalents vs. Plans of Study
Transfer course evaluation is a separate and distinct process from the completion of the plan of study. A course evaluation determines if a course is equivalent or covered the same content as an NGCSU course. Courses that do not have an exact NGCSU equivalent may transfer 'by title' and are listed on the NGCSU transcript with an 'X' suffix on the course number (for example, MATH 111X). (Additional Grade Code information is available regarding transcripts.)

When an advisor meets with a student to complete a plan of study, courses that transferred 'by title' may be substituted (as appropriate) for NGCSU course requirements. Course substitutions on a plan of study must be approved by the Department Head, Registrar and the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs before it can be made.
