The Regents' Testing Program was implemented by the University System to ensure that
students receiving degrees from its institutions possess certain minimum
skills of reading and writing. Since 1972, passing both the Reading and Writing portions
of the Regents' test has been a requirement for all students pursuing undergraduate
degrees.
Beginning Summer 2008, all undergraduate students who do not exempt both portions of the Regents' Test are expected
to take the Test in their first semester at NGCSU (unless enrolled in Learning Support English or
Learning Support Reading courses). Students should continue to take the Regents' Test each semester until
both portions are satisfied.
Students who satisfy the Regents' Test at another University System institution are not required to take the
Test again. Students who already have earned a Bachelor's degree (or higher) are exempted from the Regents'
Test requirement.
Further advisor information regarding the Regents' Test is available on the
Registrar's office site. Specific information regarding
test offerings at NGCSU are available at the
Office of Testing site.

The Board of Regents approved alternate means to satisfy the Regents'
