Credit for Military Experience

NGCSU students who served on active duty or attended military training may receive academic credit for their experience. Students must submit appropriate documentation to request that their record be evaluated for this credit. Preferred documentation would be an official copy of an AARTS (Army) transcript or a SMART (Navy, Marine Corp) transcript. If a student is unable to request and submit these transcripts, a copy of his/her latest DD-214 will be accepted as well.

The Registrar’s office will review and grant academic credit for college level work completed based on recommendations listed in the ACE Guide for Military Credit. Once granted, credit will be listed on the student’s NGCSU transcript under the heading ‘Credit for Military Experience’. The student will receive CR-credit grade(s).

Military Alignment
A student who serves on active duty and/or is away for military training and misses a fall or spring semester may be eligible for military credit based on his/her military experience. If a student would like for his/her record to be evaluated for military alignment credit, he/she should submit the most recent copy of his/her DD-214 to the Director of Instruction in the Military Science department. When the Director reviews the student's file and determines that credit should be granted, a memo is sent to the Registrar’s office to post the credit to the student’s NGCSU transcript.

Members of the Corps of Cadets are required to enroll in a Military Science class each semester. Credit for military experience will be given based on the cadet's academic plan of study and the number of semesters needed to graduate compared to the number of Military Science classes needed to the enrollment requirement. Also taken into consideration is the projected date of Leader Development and Assessment Course attendance and the need to keep the cadet militarily and academically aligned based on the plan of study submitted during the contracting process.

This credit will be listed on the NGCSU transcript under the heading ‘Credit for Military Experience’. The student will receive CR-credit grade(s).
