Gerontology Program

The Gerontology Program requires 18 hours of graduate course work to earn the gerontology certificate.

12 credit hours from interdisciplinary Gerontology classes

  • Basic Human Anatomy
  • Psychology of Aging
  • Seminar in Aging
  • Practicum or Research Experiences

6 credit hours in a focused filed of the student's choice from a special list of graduate Psychology or Sociology classes.

Program Objectives

  • To provide students with a theoretical introduction to the field of Gerontology theory, application, and research.
  • To provide students with opportunities for clinical internship experiences with older adults in a community setting.
  • To provide public service programs to meet educational, professional, and community needs.
  • To prepare students to meet the physiological, sociological, psychological, and community demands of an ever-increasing population of older adults.
  • To integrate distance learning with web-based technologies which enhance student exposure to the field of Gerontology.
  • To facilitate understand of cultural, social, and economic differences in the study of aging.
