Next Steps for Accepted Students

Congratulations on your recent acceptance to North Georgia! As you prepare for college, please use this page as a quick reference point for what happens next, however, do not disregard any letters you will receive from North Georgia because they contain very important information.

Admissions Status

Admission to the University is conditional until all appropriate documents, including final transcripts, have been received, and is contingent upon approval of your on-campus housing or commuter status. Freshman accepts must provide a final high school transcript, prior to orientation or enrollment, showing that they have graduated from an accredited high school (or North Georgia-approved home school or non-accredited high school) with a college-preparatory curriculum (16 CPC units) diploma and high school graduation tests. Transfer accepts must continue to present a transferable GPA of 2.0 or higher and be in good academic standing at the most recently attended college or university. If you do not plan to enroll in classes the semester for which you were accepted and wish to attend a different semester, please inform the Admissions Office of your decision in order to prevent cancellation of your application once the semester begins. If you do not plan to attend North Georgia, please contact the Admissions Office so your file can be canceled.

Confirmation Deposit

As a way of assisting the University in planning and budgeting, a Confirmation Deposit is required of all accepted students. Students accepted for a Fall semester are required to pay a $200 Confirmation Deposit by May 1st of the year they will be attending or if admitted after May 1st, within two weeks of admission. Students accepted for a Spring semester are required to pay a $200 Confirmation Deposit by December 1st of the year they before they be attending or if accepted after December 1st, within two weeks of admission. Students accepted for a Summer semester are required to return their Confirmation form to the Undergraduate Admissions office by April 1st of the year they will be attending. The Confirmation Deposit will be refunded to enrolled students no sooner than 20 days after the start of the semester for which they confirmed. Accepted students who do not enroll will not receive a refund of their Confirmation Deposit.

COMPASS examination

As a condition of your admission, you may be required to take the COMPASS examination. If you are required to take this exam, it will be clearly stated in the Admission Status portion of your acceptance packet. The results of the COMPASS testing will determine whether you will be placed in the regular academic program or in the Learning Support Program. We recommend that you to take the COMPASS exam before attending INTRO (new student orientation). You may schedule the examination by calling the Office of Testing at (706) 867-2857.

Housing Deposit

Once the Confirmation Deposit is received by the Admissions Office, the Residence Life Office may access the student's information, including the request to be a residential student. The Residence Life Office will send a housing contract, along with a health form, meningitis form, and student information card to the student. The student must fill out all the forms and return the forms to the Residence Life Office with a $250 housing deposit. Once the Residence Life Office receives the Housing Contract and the housing deposit, the student's information will be entered. The housing deposit date becomes a means of first-come, first-serve placement. For further information, please refer to http://www.ngcsu.edu/stu_lif/Housing/index.html or contact Residence Life at (706) 864-1902.

Advance Schedule for freshmen, Fall semseter only

As a way of ensuring new freshmen obtain core curriculum classes during their first year at North Georgia, the University has developed the advance schedule program. Accepted freshmen students who have returned their Confirmation Deposit prior to the May 1st deadline, are given the opportunity to begin the registration process. Students should submit their advance scheduling requests online before the May 16th deadline and they will receive their class schedule at INTRO (new student orientation). Students may add classes or make changes to their class schedule at INTRO.

Student Email Account

You are given a North Georgia student email account on the first Wednesday following your acceptance. Please establish a routine to review e-mails sent to your student account by going to www.ngcsu.edu and clicking the E-mail link at the bottom of the screen. Follow the directions to login to your Google Student E-mail account. If you have questions regarding your email account or you encounter difficulties logging into your email, please call the IIT help desk at 706-864-1922 or send an e-mail to helpdesk@ngcsu.edu.

INTRO

We strongly urge you to participate in North Georgia's INTRO (new student orientation) program. At INTRO, you will meet new students and your academic advisor, receive information concerning student life, and register for your classes. New freshmen, joint-enrolled high school students, and transfer students who have paid the Confirmation Deposit at least one month prior to INTRO will be mailed an invitation until this event has met capacity. All students must register to be eligible to attend.  This program covers basic information for students, advisement, and registration. For further information, please refer to http://www.ngcsu.edu/Intro/index.shtml or contact the orientation office at (706) 864-1643.

Fall 2008 freshmen INTRO dates: June 1-3, June 22-24, July 13-15, Aug 10-12
Fall 2008 transfer/non-trad INTRO dates: June 11, July 22

Advisement and Registration

So that your advisor will have all the information needed to help you prepare for course registration, please submit official copies of all advanced placement scores (AP, CLEP, and other score reports) to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions as soon as possible. Advisement and registration will occur through advance scheduling (freshmen only) or during INTRO (new student orientation). For students who do not attend INTRO, advisement will occur on the day of registration. Registration instructions, including registration dates, will be available on the North Georgia Web site, http://www.ngcsu.edu/enrollment/registrar/regrep.shtml .

Transfer Students

Academic transcripts are evaluated to determine which credits North Georgia will accept and how these credits will transfer. The Office of the Registrar conducts the evaluation and will mail your completed evaluation to you only after your have been accepted. Should you have any questions regarding the evaluation, please call (706) 864-1760 or send an email to regoff@ngcsu.edu. Please be aware that an official transcript is required from each college or university you attended (even if you withdrew) for work completed prior to your enrollment at North Georgia. A final official end of term transcript is required from any college or university in which you are currently enrolled.

Students with Disabilities

Please contact Elizabeth McIntosh, Coordinator of Disability Resources, at (706) 867-2782 to set up an appointment and obtain information regarding available services.

Immunization

As a prerequisite to registration, the University System of Georgia [Board of Regents Policy 408.02] requires that all students provide proof of immunity to measles, mumps and rubella. Effective January 2005, new students are also required to provide proof of immunization to varicella (chicken pox), tetanus, diphtheria and, if 18 years of age or less at the time of classes, hepatitis B.  This immunization record must be received by Student Health Services prior to class registration. For further information, please refer to http://www.ngcsu.edu/infirmary/index.htm or contact Student Health Services at (706) 864-1948.

Nursing or Education majors

The Nursing and Education departments have separate requirements and deadlines to complete applications for these majors. In addition to being accepted through Undergraduate Admissions, you will need to complete the department's application process by the department deadline to be considered for that program. Acceptance to the University by Undergraduate Admission does not guarantee admission to the Nursing Program or Education Program.

Nursing students should contact the Department of Nursing at (706) 864-1935 or refer to http://www.ngcsu.edu/Academic/Sciences/Nursing/index.shtml .

Education students should contact the School of Education at (706) 867-3247 or refer to http://www.ngcsu.edu/academic/Educate/index.htm .
