Pushing Your Blog to Facebook

Introduction

Facebook gives you the ability to import an RSS feed that can be passed to all your friends. So import the RSS Feed from your blog to your Facebook account, ask your students to be your friends, and they will automatically receive notices whenever you update your blog. That easy.

What You Need to Get Started

Two things:

  • A blog site that provides RSS Feeds
  • A Facebook account

Setting It Up

Getting the RSS Feed URL of Your Blog

1.  Go to your blog and check for the following symbol.

2.  Right click the link for the blog RSS feed and copy the link.

Importing the RSS Feed Into Facebook

1.  Log in to Facebook.

2.  Go to your profile.

4.  Expand your applications on the left side of the screen and open Notes.

5.  Go to "My Notes."

6.  Under "Note Settings" click on "Import a blog" on the far right of your screen.

7.  This will pull up the "Import an External Blog" screen. Paste the URL you copied earlier into the box for the "Web URL:" and check the box below it to agree to the statement.

8.  Click "Start Importing."

9.  You will see a preview of the imported feed. Click "Confirm Import" to finish.

Making your Facebook Notes visible

1. Under your "Notes Settings:" click "Edit notes privacy."

2.  In the "Privacy Settings for Notes" screen, the default choices will allow your notes to be seen by anyone in your network or friend's list. Your students can "subscribe" to your notes to have them pushed to their Facebook page. Leave the default settings and click "Save."

Invitations...

1.  Ask your students to find you in Facebook and invite you as a friend and to subscribe to your notes.

2.  Now, each time you update your blog, your students will see it in Facebook.
