Podcasts are audio and/or video files provided by your instructor that you can download, and view or listen to at your own convenience. The term "podcast" may refer to one or more "episodes" (individual files) to which you can subscribe. (i.e., Your instructor may have a podcast on 18th century authors, devoting an episode to each author, and another podcast on 19th century authors, set up in a similar fashion.)
Your instructor will provide you with a URL to access a particular podcast. You will need to "subscribe" to the podcast using an aggregator such as iTunes. iTunes will then automatically download any new episodes posted by your instructor.
NOTE: You do NOT have to have an iPod to listen to or view podcast episodes.
