Carol A. Miller, P.T., Ph.D., G.C.S., is an American Physical Therapy Association Board
Certified Clinical Specialist in Geriatrics (G.C.S). She has a Bachelor’s of Science degree in
Physical Therapy from Boston University and a post-professional Master’s of Science degree in

I believe that the most optimal “learning environment” can only occur when the teacher and learner
collaboratively explore issues. Perhaps at the outset the teacher bears the responsibility for bringing
knowledge to the learner, but over time, the responsibility for full understanding and growth must be
shared! In effect, I wholeheartedly embrace the philosophy of teaching of Kahlil Gibran - who states:
“If he is indeed wise [the teacher] does not bid you enter the house of his wisdom, but rather leads you
to the threshold of your own mind.
Since 1996 I have served on a variety of University Committees, including:
- Project Dignity: “Safe Space Listener"
- Academic Integrity Council
- Nursing Search Committee/Biology Department Search Committee
- Health Committee
- Graduate Program in Physical Therapy Committees - Student
Promotion and Retention Committee; Scholarship and Awards
Committee, Honor’s Day Committee, Health Fair Committee
- Grace Appeal Committee
- Promotion and Tenure Committee - School of NHS

Within the field of physical therapy, both clinically and academically, the areas of my greatest
interest and competence are in geriatrics, amputation management, biomechanics, and chronic diseases
that occur with aging. I also have experience in teaching orthopedics, gait analysis, and clinical
decision making processes for physical therapists. In the past and currently, I conduct research and
advise student groups for thesis investigation in all of the aforementioned areas of interest.
I enjoy music – all genres (play guitar); karate and Tae-Bo; and outdoor activities including hiking
and camping.
