Looking for the most memorable weekend of your life? Want a taste of the leadership development activities that you will experience as a cadet? We're looking
for those special students who want to find out more about
themselves so they can more effectively lead others: both
now and in the future.
North Georgia College & State University, nationally recognized
for its leadership development programs, has designed a National
Leadership Challenge Weekend that will provide you with a
chance to push yourself to new limits and accomplish feats
you never dreamed possible.
We want to give you, and other select college-bound students,
the opportunity to test your mind and body, and to discover
the leader within!
We will assign you to a small
team and evaluate your group on how well you accomplish problem-solving
and team-building activities. As you maneuver through obstacle
courses and solve problems, you will learn to trust your teammates
in a way you've never counted on or trusted anyone before.
In addition to getting an invigorating physical workout,
these exercises will help you and other future leaders develop
the skills necessary to excel in college and beyond. North
Georgia cadets who have already accepted the Challenge will
be there to guide you!
This exciting opportunity is offered only twice a year (Fall
and Spring), and space is limited to 200 students . The registration fee
is $55. Please make check payable to National Leadership
Challenge and please mail it with your application. The fee
is non-refundable.
Eligibility: You must be a high school
junior or senior on a college-preparatory curriculum. You
must have at least a 75 numerical grade point average or a
2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Seniors (not juniors) must have 480 or above critical
reading score and a 440 math score on the SAT; or 20 English,
18 math and 20 composite ACT. Applications will not be accepted
if GPA and/or SAT/ACT scores are not indicated. Special consideration
will be given for seniors who have not taken, but are scheduled
to take, the SAT or ACT in the fall. Applications for juniors will be considered with or without an SAT or ACT score.
NOTE: Current college students who are looking to transfer to North Georgia can attend National Leadership Challenge. They must have applied to North Georgia before they attend NLC.
NLC
is a physical program, and you must be in reasonable
physical condition to attend. NLC activities vary from semester
to semester, and may include activities such as basic self
defense instruction, basic military skills instruction, and
firing of blank ammunition from military weapons.
"Honestly,
I had no idea what to expect... but North Georgia has exceeded
my expectations and more. The picture of North Georgia on-line
can't possibly describe how beautiful this place really is.
Both the people and the Corps of Cadets have really impressed
me this weekend."

"I dropped my son off at NLC this last Friday. We stayed for a few minutes while he checked in. I took advantage of the opportunity to ask some of the cadets about cadet life - laptop vs. desktop, what's a good bank... I have never been so impressed by a group of young people. They were all energetic, articulate and motivated. They did a terrific job with the logistics of registration and getting everyone to chow. That's all I saw - I wanted to stay, but my son said I had to leave. I was thrilled that my son was going to North Georgia before I dropped him off, but I cannot describe how excited I am after meeting the people he will be going to school with."

"My
son was at the National Leadership Challenge this past weekend.
He was also accepted to NGCSU this week! We are so proud ...
(my son) gave the Veteran's Day speech at the high school.
I wanted you to know what an impact it had on him. He came
home and changed his speech to include his experience at NLC.
He received a standing ovation and a phone call at the school
from a truck driver that heard it on the radio and tracked
him down. He expressed his gratitude and told him how much
his speech meant to him and the other drivers at the truck
stop. Thank you for giving my son the weekend of a lifetime,
and we all look forward to him attending NGCSU next Fall!"
