Proposals to Present Papers: Proposals to present papers may be submitted with a copy or draft of the paper or a summary of the paper's content. To propose a paper, send the proposal by E-mail (attachments should be created in Microsoft Word) to:
Dr. Ross C. Alexander
NGCSU Political Science
82 College Circle
Dahlonega, Georgia
30597-1001
(706) 864-1699
rcalexander@NGCSU.edu
Proposals are due no later than Thursday, February 7, 2008.
Lodging:
Three motels will appear as you climb the hill that is
the approach to downtown Dahlonega. One of them is the
Holiday Inn Express, 835 South
Chestatee Street (U. S. Route 19 and Georgia Route 60 North), (706) 867-7777.
The rate on Thursday is $75.50 plus tax and on Friday is $95.50 plus tax for
double occupancy. Add $10 for quadruple occupancy. Although the
motel rarely fills up in early March, an unexpected special event could create
demand for rooms, so we recommend that you make a reservation as soon as your
plans are well-defined. Even if you make a reservation and then change
your mind, you may cancel reservations without penalty until 4 p.m. on the
scheduled day of arrival.
Directions:
-- To NGCSU's Health and Natural Sciences Building:
Take Georgia Route 400 until it ends in Lumpkin County. Turn left to U. S.
Route 19 and Georgia Route 60 North. At the first traffic light in the
City of Dahlonega, turn left; now you are on Georgia Route 9 South, also known
as Morrison Moore Parkway. At the next traffic light, turn right; now you
are on Business Route 9 North, also known as West Main Street. At the next
traffic light, turn left; this is Sunset Drive. See parking information
below.
-- To the Dahlonega Woman's Club Community House:
Take Georgia Route 400 until it ends in Lumpkin County. Turn left to U. S.
Route 19 and Georgia Route 60 North. When you come to the first traffic
light in the City of Dahlonega, go straight; now you are on Business
Route 19 and 60 North. Quickly, you will arrive at Dahlonega Square, and
bear right into the roundabout (rotary), in the center of which is the old
county courthouse (now the Gold Museum). (Note:
If you are coming from NGCSU's Health and Natural Sciences Building, turn left
onto West Main Street, which will take you to Dahlonega Square. Enter the
roundabout (rotary), and use the following directions.)
Immediately after you pass the old courthouse, turn left (but use
the right-hand lane so that you enter North Park Street rather than reentering
the roundabout (rotary)). After driving for two blocks, you will reach
Hawkins Street. You will have just passed the St. Luke Catholic Church,
but ahead on your left is the Community House (a building whose exterior is
stone). Find a parking space along one of the streets.
Parking:
Download the parking permit (no longer available), print it out, and place it on your dashboard on the driver's
side. It allows you to park in a student parking space in a "BLACK"
parking zone on Sunset Drive. Suggestion: Pass by the first
"BLACK" parking lot on Sunset Drive; there are two "BLACK" lots closer to the
Health and Natural Sciences Building further up the hill.
