GRADUATE STUDENT SENATE

SUBSIDIES FOR GRADUATE STUDENTS' TRAVEL
AND RESEARCH ACTIVITY

The Graduate Student Senate subsidizes travel by graduate students to conferences.  A student who travels to a conference or other school-related event may receive up to $300 of reimbursement per year.

To apply for a travel grant, a student must fill out and submit two forms:

◆ A "Request for Funding of Graduate Student's Travel to Conference".

◆ A "PROFESSIONAL TRAVEL AUTHORIZATION REQUEST" (Form BF002).

Fill out both forms, get signatures from the program coordinator or department head, and submit them to Dr. Stefanie Palma, faculty advisor, c/o Department of Physical Therapy.

There are maximum reimbursements for mileage and meals.  The Graduate Student Senate uses the same limits that apply to employee travel.  Currently, the limits are 44.5 cents per mile, $6 for breakfast, $7 for lunch, and $15 for dinner.

Upon return from the trip, the graduate student must obtain a "Travel Expense Statement" (this is the same form used by employees and can be obtained from any administrative or academic departmental office).  Receipts for air fare, other transportation over $20, lodging, and registration fee are required.  The student should be sure to fill in his/her address in the "Residence" space and should sign and date the form at the bottom.

Caution:  The "Travel Expense Statement" must be submitted within 30 days of the return from the trip or June 1 of the fiscal year, whichever is earlier.  For travel that concludes after May 31, contact Dr. Palma for advice.

Questions may be referred to Dr. Palma at sdpalma@NGCSU.edu .

NOTE:  The GSS will award a student no more than $300 per year.  Funds are also available from the Office of Graduate Studies, and from the NGCSU Foundation through the Office of Academic Affairs.  By submitting the "Request for Funding of Graduate Students' Travel to Conference" form to the Graduate Student Senate, the applicant will actually be considered for funding from all three sources.  Awards from the Office of Graduate Studies and the NGCSU Foundation are determined on a case-by-case basis.
