NGCSU WOMEN FINISH NINTH, MEN FINISH ELEVENTH IN SEWANEE INVITATIONAL
Sewanee, TN - Sophomore Alan Schmitz and freshman Emmy Lawalin led the men's and women's cross country teams to an eleventh and ninth place finish respectively as North Georgia College & State University competed at the Sewanee Invitational.
Schmitz finished the 8K race in 29:00.66 to capture 57th place while Josh Kerzie completed the course in 30:20.26 which was good for 78th place. Junior David Beall compiled a time of 30:31.35 that placed him 84th overall. North Georgia finished 11th out of an elite field of 15 teams for an average time of 30:35.13.
Taking the top two spots in the men’s race were Travis McKay in a time of 26:04.30 and Ashenafi Arega in a time of 26:04.81. Both Mississippi State runners led their team to a first place finish with an average time of 26:21.79.
On the women’s side, Lawalin crossed the line first for the Lady Saints with a time of 21:24.14 for 46th place. Hannah Dugger finished right behind Lawalin in 47th place with a time of 21:28.80, and Liz Dunn rounded out the top three for North Georgia in 59th place with a time of 22:08.90.
Mississippi State dominated the women’s side of the race, holding four of the top six spots to take first place with an average time of 18:51.81. MSU sophomore Michelle Corrigan won the race with a time of 18:28.06 while teammate Jennifer McPherson finished right on her heels with a time of 18:29.34.
