NGCSU WOMEN FINISH THIRD, MEN FINISH FIFTH IN NORTH GEORGIA CHALLENGE
Dahlonega, GA – Liz Dunn highlighted a big day for the North Georgia College & State University women’s cross country team, finishing fourth in a field of 57 runners in the inaugural North Georgia Challenge at Yahoola Park.
Dunn’s finish, coupled with Emmy Lawalin’s seventh place finish, helped the Lady Saints finish third overall in the meet.
North Georgia finished with 69 total points, trailing only second place Clayton State (61 points) and overall champion, Georgia College & State University (32 points).
Finishing ahead of Dunn were two Clayton State runners, Allison Kreutzer with a time of 12:14.58 and Angela Cobb with a time of 12:33.46. Virginia Balkcom, from GCSU, finished third with a time of 13:31.05.
Following Dunn’s time of 14:00.69 was Sarah Hakala of GCSU with a time of 14:21.43 to round out the top five.
Meanwhile, North Georgia College & State University finished fifth overall in the inaugural meet. Alan Schmitz led the Saints with a seventh place finish.
The Saints tallied 122 points, trailing Clark-Atlanta with 103 points in fourth place and Clayton State with 91 points in third place. Morehouse College finished second with 49 points, falling three points behind champion Georgia College & State University with 46 points.
Richard Dobson won the men’s overall 5K race with a time of 17:43.87; out-distancing second place Alex Brickler of Morehouse by 16 seconds (17:59.18). Michael Hague of GCSU finished third with a time of 18:13.97, followed by Nelson Lopez of Clayton State with a time of 18:17.56 and Lawrence Hanks of Morehouse with a time of 18:22.06.
