MEN TAKE SIXTH PLACE AND WOMEN FINISH FOURTH AT ERSKINE
Lawalin captures top-five finish

Due West, SCEmmy Lawalin finished in the top five, and Alan Schmitz crossed the line in eleventh place to lead the Saints on Thursday afternoon at the Erskine Invitational.

Lawalin finished fifth in the women’s 5k race, her highest finish in 2006, with a time of 21:00. Freshman Liz Dunn cracked the top ten for the second time this season with a ninth place finish in a time of 21:22 and Beatrice Nelligan finished a season high third place on the team with a time of 22:44 that placed her 23rd overall.

Wingate University set the pace in the women’s race tallying only 42 points in the victory. Lander University was the runner-up, followed by Presbyterian College with 100 points, and North Georgia with 114 points.

In the men’s 8k race, Schmitz led the way once again for the Saints with an 11th place finish in a time of 28:17. Schmitz finished just four seconds off his best time of the season recorded at the Pre-Conference Meet where the Saints will be next Saturday. Josh Kerzie finished in 16th place in a time of 28:47, and David Beall finished in 21st in a time of 29:11.

Wingate University dominated the men’s race with three runners in the top ten, and finishing nearly 50 points ahead of Presbyterian College and Erskine College who both tallied 93 points for a second place tie.

North Georgia will return to action on Saturday, October 21, as they compete in the 2006 Peach Belt Conference Championships hosted by Columbus State. The men will race first at 9:00 am, followed by the women at 9:45 in the Saints final race of the season.
