WATKINS SELECTED PBC RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Dahlonega, Ga. – Senior Irina Watkins was named this week's Peach Belt Conference Female Runner of the Week, announced today by PBC officials.
Watkins ran only the second sub-18 minute 5k time in the Peach Belt Conference this season with her third-place result at the Georgia Collegiate Championships in Macon. The senior ran a 17:59 to lead NGCSU to a 14th-place finish in her first race of the season, her best time in her North Georgia career.
Watkins may be familiar to PBC cross country fans after being named PBC Runner of the Year after winning the PBC Championships in 2002 for Kennesaw State. She also won the NAIA Region XIII Championship for North Georgia last season.
She becomes the first North Georgia student-athlete, in any sport, to be named a Peach Belt player of the week.
