WATKINS PLACES FOURTH IN 1500 AT
FINNISH NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Dahlonega, Ga. – Senior Irina Watkins took fourth in the 1500 meter and eighth in the 800 meter at the Finnish National Championships held in her hometown of Varkaus, Finland on July 15-17.

Watkins finished the 1500 meter race in a time of 4:31.36, just two seconds behind the third place finisher. In the 800 meter preliminary race, she ran a 2:15.70 and qualified for the final with a second place finish. In the 800 meter final, she ran 2:20.23 to take eighth place overall.

The Saints cross country team will begin training for the upcoming season in two weeks. Watkins will look to win the Peach Belt Conference Champion a second time as North Georgia College & State University enters the PBC this fall. Watkins won the PBC Championship in 2002 while at Kennesaw State University.
