| Monday, March 28, 2005 WATKINS WINS 5000 AT EMORY INVITATIONAL Atlanta, Ga. – Running her first 5000 meter race on the track in her career, junior Irina Watkins (Varkaus, Finland) won the 5000 at the Emory Invitational with a time of 18:05.20 this past Saturday. Competing as an open athlete, the reigning Southern States Athletic Conference and NAIA Region XIII cross country champion defeated the field by nine seconds. Emory runners Caroline Hagedorn and Dorothy Boone finished in second and third place with times of 18:16.67 and 19:00.64. Other NAIA schools that participated in the meet were Concordia, Cumberland, and Campbellsville. Watkins and the other members of the North Georgia College & State University cross country team are currently training this spring in preparation for their first season in NCAA Division II competition in the Peach Belt Conference.
