Clinton, Miss. - Junior's Irina Watkins (Varkaus, Finland) and Kelly Parr ( Maysville, Ga.) led the Saints cross country teams this weekend at the 2004 NAIA Region XIII Cross Country Championship, and advanced to the NAIA National Championships in Louisville, Ky.

Watkins posted her best time of the season, 18:10.84 in the five kilometer event, and won the women's race by over a minute. With the win, she picked up 2004 Region XIII Runner of the Year honors as well as 2004 Southern States Athletic Conference Runner of the Year . Watkins was also named to the 2004 All-Region and All-Conference teams.

Parr finished first for the North Georgia men and 11th overall in the eight kilometer race. He posted a time of 27:48.69, his best time of the season. With the performance, Parr earned an at-large bid to the NAIA National Championships.

Both the women's and men's cross country teams recorded some of the best times of the year. Junior Anna Roller (Commerce, Ga.) finished in 28th place in a time of 21:25. The Saints though tied Lee University in the conference with 65 points and won the tie-breaker with sophomore Bryan Harris' (Cleveland, Ga.) sixth place finish on the team.

Berry College won both the men's and women's races and won for the automatic bid to the national meet.

Watkins and Parr will now prepare for the 2004 NAIA National Cross Country Championship in Louisville, Ky. on November 20. The women's race begins at 10:30 am with the men's race to follow at 11:30 am.
