UNCP TENNIS DEFEATS NORTH GEORGIA 6-3
Pembroke, NC - UNCP’s women’s tennis team defeated North Georgia 6-3 to improve to 5-1 on the year and earn their first Peach Belt win in college tennis action Sunday afternoon.
The Lady Braves, who are ranked 12th in the Mid-Atlantic Region, fell behind 2-1 following doubles action, but won five of the six singles matches to earn the win and even their league record at 1-1.
The Lady Braves’ Stacey Wood downed Sam Bessett 6-4, 6-1 in #1 singles play, while Erin Saltzman defeated Catie Murphy 6-2, 6-2 at #2 to tie the match at 3-3 overall. UNCP’s #3 singles perfomer Natalie Dies earned the win 7-6, 7-5 in a hard fought match that saw her down in both sets against Katherine Harrison as Ivana Music’, Pembroke’s #4, defeated Jenny Bridges 6-1, 6-0.
In the #5 singles match, UNCP’s Jessica Figgins used back-to-back 6-2 victories to clinch the win, while Crystal Lee was the only North Georgia singles competitor to earn a victory as she downed Amy Hardin 6-0, 6-0.
The Lady Saints will play again on Wednesday against Georgia Southwestern at 3:00 pm in Dahlonega. Lady Braves will be back on the courts this Wednesday in non-conference action as Wingate comes to campus for a 2:30 match.
