LADY SAINTS DEFEAT MONTEVALLO WITH LATE GOAL
Dahlonega, GA – North Georgia College & State University used a late goal by Katie Turner to defeat Montevallo 1-0 in non-conference action.
With the score tied 0-0, Turner took a pass from Erin Roberson on the right wing, and punched it by Montevallo goalkeeper Corey Gros from about 20-yards out, in the 77th minute to give North Georgia the lead. Roberson took a pass from Kelly Orear to set up the game-winning goal.
Moments before the goal, Katie Baribault kept Montevallo off the scoreboard with a game-saving play. North Georgia goalkeeper Leigha Terry came out and attacked Montevallo’s Paula Radmard, with the two colliding and sending the ball toward an empty net. Baribault rushed in from her midfield position, knocking the ball off the line and out of bounds in the 74th minute.
Montevallo turned up the pressure after the North Georgia goal, getting several shots off in the final few minutes of the game. The Lady Saints sealed the victory late by pushing the ball down the field and getting a corner kick with less than 30 seconds remaining.
Terry and starter, Mary Canon Williams, combined on the shutout in goal for North Georgia (1-1-1).
The Lady Saints return to action on Saturday against Erskine College, in Dahlonega, at 1 pm. Meanwhile, Montevallo (0-1-0) travels to Lakeland, Fla. to take on Florida Southern this weekend.
