LADY SAINTS FALL IN NON-CONFERENCE ACTION
UAH scores four first-half goals en route to victory
Dahlonega, GA – North Georgia College & State University was unable to rebound from a quick start by the University of Alabama-Huntsville Lady Chargers, falling 5-1 in non-conference action Sunday evening.
The Lady Chargers scored quickly in the contest, with Casey Aloi taking a pass from Ina Bjorklid and turning into a breakaway in the 12th minute. Aloi took the ball on the right flank and beat Lady Saints’ goalkeeper Leigha Terry to the far post for a 1-0 lead. The play was created by a misplay in the back for North Georgia.
UAH (3-2) took another misplay in the back to jump on top 2-0 in the 20th minute. Devin Newman deflected a shot by her teammate Erin Noser. The deflection caught Terry off-guard, and the ball found the back of the net for the two-goal lead.
The Lady Chargers added two more goals in the first half, courtesy of Newman and Tina Nicolas. Newman scored her second goal of the match when she received a pass from Bjorklid and punched into the net in the 26th minute. Nicolas scored her goal as she took a pass from Noser and went far post, actually hitting the ball off the post in the 29th minute for a 4-0 lead.
North Georgia (2-3-1) was able to get on the scoreboard in the 34th minute when Kelsey Webb took a corner kick from Katie Turner and beat Lady Chargers’ goalkeeper Annika Mehrtens to the near post, trimming the lead to 4-1.
The Lady Chargers added a goal in the 78th minute when Abby Jones took a pass from Lexi Heileman to jump ahead 5-1. Heileman lobbed the pass over the North Georgia defense, putting Jones in a one-on-one situation against Terry.
North Georgia returns to action against Oglethorpe University at the NGCSU Soccer Complex on Wednesday, September 13th. The non-conference game is set to begin at 4 pm.
