The Mountain Lions came into the match as the fourth ranked team in the National Junior College Athletic Association. North Georgia out-shot YHC 12-4 in the first half and took a 1-0 lead 37 minutes in. Sophomore midfielder Katie Baribault fed a corner kick to freshman striker Elizabeth Franklin who finished it off to make it a 1-0 match.
It was not until 30 minutes later that the Mountain Lions evened the match at 1-1. Freshman midfielder Megan Bruso passed the ball to sophomore forward Talita Camilo who finished with the goal. The teams went back and forth throughout the remainder of the match as each took eight shots in the second half.
The Lady Saints finally saw an opening with less than one minute remaining in the match when Franklin crossed the ball over to junior forward Jessica Williams. Williams received the ball, and after one touch, blasted it past the outstretched arms of sophomore goalie Liz Paullin for the game winning goal.
Both goalkeepers preformed well between the posts as Paullin finished with six saves and Lady Saints sophomore goalie Kelly Conarro tallied four saves.
North Georgia returns to action this Saturday on the road at 1:00 p.m. as they take on UNC Pembroke in a Peach Belt Conference match. |
