MARS HILL TOPS NORTH GEORGIA 4-0
Roa scores two goals in the victory

Asheville, N.C. - The Lions' women's soccer team defeated North Georgia College & State University 4-0 last night in Memorial Stadium in the final round of the MHC Invitational. Mars Hill is 2-0 on the season while NGCSU fell to 0-2 on the year.

Jasmine Riley (Arlington, VA) opened up the scoring just two minutes into the match on an unassisted breakaway. Becky Roa (Falls Church, VA) gave MHC a 2-0 advantage by kicking a through ball past NGCSU's keeper in the 10th minute. The ball was passed by Alicia Blaha (Rapid City, SD). Blaha found Roa again on another through ball at the 15:40 mark. The Lions took the 3-0 lead into the locker room at the intermission.

Meghan Spalviero (Fayetteville, GA) ended the scoring for the Lions on a cross from Katie Powell (Huntersville, NC). The goal was recorded at the 84:31 mark.

MHC out shot NGCSU 24-to-6. Shannon Higgins (Boca Raton, FL) recorded her first shut out as a Lion making three saves in the win. Kelly Canarro (Atlanta, GA) and Mary Canon-Williams (Hot Springs, AR) split time in goal or NGCSU. Canarro made five saves while Canon Williams made three saves.

MHC will return to action on Wednesday, August 31, when they play at Belmont Abbey. The Saints will take on USC Upstate in their first Peach Belt Conference match on September 10 at 4:00 p.m.
