TWO LADY SAINTS SOCCER RECRUITS NAMED 4A AND 2A PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Dahlonega, Ga. – Katie Turner and Leigha Terry were recently named 4A and 2A Player of the Year respectively by DiVarsity.com. Third year head women’s soccer coach Chris Adams announced in February the signing of Terry and Turner to play soccer in 2006 at North Georgia College & State University.
Turner, a 5-3 midfielder, will graduate from Rockdale High School where she received numerous awards during her career. She was selected as Gatorade Athlete of the Year in 2004 and Player of the Year in 2005, as well as a three time selection to the East Metro Team. Turner is also an excellent volleyball player, earning Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2004. She played club soccer at Rockdale Youth Soccer Association for most of her career before joining GSA for her last year.
Adams adds, "Katie is an amazing player that does everything well. She is such a pleasant person that is extremely positive all the time. She visited campus and fit in with the team immediately. I felt like she was one of the best players on the field during her tryout. I look for Katie to play all over the place for us. Her strengths lead me to play her in the midfield, but she also defends so well that I am tempted to play in her in the back. Regardless of where she plays, she is such a good player that she will have to be on the field for us.”
Terry, a 5-4 goalie, will graduate from Providence Christian Academy where she was captain of the Providence Christian team that was a Georgia state finalist last year. A three-year letter-winner, she was named to the All-County team all three years of her career and was team captain. Terry played club soccer for GSA and has been a member of the Georgia Olympic Development Team for five years. She has represented Georgia at Region III ODP Camp on four occasions.
"Leigha is a player we identified last year as someone that could raise the level of our team and program. She is a leader on the field and has very good technique in goal. I look for Leigha to come in and earn the starting position during preseason. She is a very consistent player who is very reliable day in and day out. Leigha should put up the type of statistics necessary to receive All-Conference accolades in her freshman year," stated Adams.
Both recruits will participate in the DiVarsity All Star Game that will be played on Saturday, May 20th at 6:00 p.m. The contest will be held at Lassiter High School.
