COKER SETTLES FOR 1-1 TIE
HARTSVILLE, SC – Coker earned a 1-1 tie against North Georgia College & State University Saturday afternoon in womens collegiate soccer. The Cobras lost their 1-0 lead with less than four minutes on the clock but held on through two overtimes for the tie.
The teams went into the break tied at 0-0 after an uneventful opening period. The teams combined for only four shots in the first half and neither keeper had to make a save. The second period started off the same way but Coker turned up the pressure in the 64th minute by capitalizing on a Saint mistake.
Freshman Micah Jordan's corner kick slipped through the hands of the NGCSU keeper and sophomore Kim Hemenway knocked it in for 1-0 lead. North Georgia scrambled to try to even the score and, finally, with 3:15 remaining broke through for the equalizer.
Jessica Williams got a foot on a free kick cross and punched it past CC's Jacque Stewart to force overtime. The teams went back and forth in the two extra periods with Stewart making a pair of saves to preserve the tie.
The Saints held a 13-5 advantage in shots and took seven corner kicks to Coker's one goal-producing attempt. Stewart made four saves in the match and Mary Cannon Williams made one for North Georgia College.
