JOLLEY NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT
Lone representative of Peach Belt Conference
Bristol, CT – North Georgia College & State University women’s basketball player Rachael Jolley was the lone representative from the Peach Belt Conference to be named to the 2007 Women’s Basketball ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District College Division teams, announced last week.
Jolley, a 6-2 junior from Covington, Ga., is currently the fifth-leading scorer for the Lady Saints this season. She is averaging 8.9 points from her post position, and she also averages 6.5 rebounds per game (second-highest on the team). She has appeared in 24 games, starting 12 of those as a junior. Jolley leads the Lady Saints in field percentage, shooting 51 (78-for-153) percent from the floor, and in three-point field shooting, connecting on 40.9 (18-for-44) percent this season.
Earlier in the season, she dominated the boards in the Disney Division II Tip-Off Classic in Orlando, grabbing 32 rebounds in three games – just one shy of the tournament record for rebounds. She has recorded four double-doubles from her post position, but none more impressive than the ones recorded on Deceember 30 and January 31.
On December 30, Jolley helped NGCSU head coach Buffie Burson attain her 300th career coaching victory with a 21 point-20 rebound performance on the road against Claflin University. And on January 31, in front of a capacity crowd, she scored 26 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in a conference win over USC Upstate.
Not only has been a shining star on the court this season, she also has been in the classroom by maintaining a 4.0 cumulative grade point average in Accounting.
The members of the College Sports Information Directors of America selected the players for this honor. Fifteen student-athletes were named to either the first, second or third team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III women’s basketball team. The six first team members will advance to the national ballot. Another 22 made it from District IV.
The District III College Division consists of all-non NCAA Division I colleges and universities in Florida, Georgia, Nort and South Carolina and Virginia. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or a significant reserve on his or her team.
