NORTH GEORGIA UPENDS UNC PEMBROKE 76-54
Pembroke, N.C. – Megan Huffman scored 19 points, while Jeanine Dorminey hauled in a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds to lead North Georgia to a 76-54 win over UNC Pembroke on Homecoming in Peach Belt women’s basketball action Saturday afternoon in the Jones Center.
With the win, NGCSU stays undefeated in the league at 14-0 and 18-3 overall, while the Lady Braves fall to 12-6 overall and 7-6 in the league.
Chipping in 16 points for the Lady Saints was Syretha Marble, while Katie Williamson added 15 to give North Georgia the 22-point victory. Marble also had nine rebounds and six assists to add to the North Georgia cause.
Leading the Lady Braves was Tasha Stotler who netted 17 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Lauren Lingenfelter also grabbed eight boards. Tracey Lightfoot added six assists, while Tiffany Wright scored nine points and recorded nine rebounds.
Up seven at half, 37-27, North Georgia steadily pulled away in the second half leading by as many as 24 after a Lindsey Kitchens’ three-pointer with 3:16 remaining in the contest.
UNCP’s Lindsay Bartholf did manage one three-pointer moving her to with three of the all-time record for three points made, which is currently held by Rachel Garner who buried 175 during her career.
For the game the Lady Saints shot 40% from the floor on 27-67 shooting and 32% (10-31) from behind the arc, while UNCP could only manage 19 buckets on 62 attempts (30.6%) from the floor and five of 20 (25%) from behind the arc. Both teams attempted 18 free throws with NGCSU hitting 12 and UNCP making only 11.
Up next for UNCP is a road game at PBC rival Francis Marion on Monday, February 6, at 5:30 pm, while North Georgia will host Lander on Wednesday, February 8, 5:30 pm.
