WILLIAMSON NAMED ESPN THE MAGAZINE ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICAN

Dahlonega, Ga. – Senior guard Katie Williamson has been named to the 2006 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American second team announced by CoSIDA officials today.

Williamson, a 5-10 senior from Suwanee, Ga., is a first year selection for the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American. She is completing her degree in Biology and will attend medical school at the Medical College of Georgia to study oncology. Williamson has maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA in her four-year career as a Lady Saint and has led the team to four conference championships, most recently the 2006 Peach Belt Conference Championship. She has also won three conference tournament championships and led North Georgia to three NAIA National Tournament appearances.

Averaging a career high 14.8 points per game this season, Williamson scored 1656 points in her career as a Lady Saint and holds the program record for free throw percentage (.882) in a career and broke her own single season record in free throw percentage this season (.919). She only missed one game in her career and led North Georgia to a 109-24 overall record during that time. Williamson was named to the Daktronics NAIA All-American Scholar-Athlete team in 2004 and 2005 as well as the SSAC and GACC All-Academic team.
She was most recently named to the PBC All-Conference team this week.

 

Williamson is the second member of the Lady Saints basketball team to garner Academic All-American honors. She joins Morey LaFeve who was a selected to the team in 2000.

Williamson was the Peach Belt Conference’s lone Academic All-American selection and only one of three chosen from the College Division’s Region III. The College Division is made up of schools from the NCAA Division II and III levels as well NAIA members. The Academic All-American team is selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
