#14 LADY SAINTS SURVIVE LADY EAGLES 67-64

Dahlonega, Ga. – The 14th ranked North Georgia College & State University women’s basketball team survived a scare Thursday night as they defeated Reinhardt College 67-64.

The win for North Georgia (14-6, 10-1) mark only the third time this season that the Lady Saints have scored fewer than 70 points and won. RC (15-8, 5-7) played North Georgia close in their last meeting in Waleska, with the Lady Saints winning 61-53.

The Lady Eagles came on strong in the first half and forced the Lady Saints to play catch-up the entire half. RC senior wing Amanda Clonts (Murphy, N.C.) led the charge in the half with 11 points. Clonts knocked down a three pointer with 6:09 left on the clock to give the Lady Eagles a 20-15 lead. North Georgia clawed back into the game, and a jumper from behind the arc from freshman guard Melissa Chancey (Cleveland, Tenn.) gave the Lady Saints a three point lead with 34 seconds remaining in the half. RC would not back down though, and sophomore guard Kim Brumfield (Cleveland, Ga.) made her own three pointer to tie the score at 30-30 going into halftime.

North Georgia struggled from the field in the first half, shooting only 32% (10-31) and only 25% (2-8) from behind the arc. RC shot 44% (11-25) from the field and 38% (3-8) from behind the three-point line.

In the second half, the score once again changed hands multiple times, with each team unable to establish any type of lead. With 11 minutes left in the game, senior forward Brandi Owen (Cornelia, Ga.) sunk a three point jumper to give North Georgia a three point lead and make the score 51-48. RC fought back once again and took the lead with six minutes remaining off of a jumper from sophomore wing Josephine Reed (Lithonia, Ga.) and gave the Lady Eagles a 57-56 edge. The Lady Saints took the lead for good with three and a half minutes remaining in the game when senior forward Katie Schleisman (Suwanee, Ga.) buried a three pointer to make the score 61-59. RC cut the lead to one with 14 second left on the clock after a three pointer from sophomore wing Mandy Anderson (Blue Ridge, Ga.), but were unable to break North Georgia.

Next up for North Georgia is a trip this Saturday to Southern Polytechnic State University in another Southern States Athletic Conference match-up at 2:00 p.m. RC also plays again this Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at home as they host Shorter College in SSAC play.
