Schleisman Scores Career High 29 Points

Dahlonega, Ga. - The 18th ranked Lady Saints of North Georgia College & State University poured on the offense against the seventh ranked Lady Barons of Brewton-Parker College and handed BPC its first loss of the season as they won Saturday afternoon 89-60.

The Lady Saints shot 56.7% from the field, 42.9% from behind the arc, and a perfect 18-18 to romp over the Lady Barons. Four North Georgia players scored in double digits, while the defense held BPC to only 28.8% from the field and 20.8% from the three point line.

The Lady Barons jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the opening minutes of the game and had a nine point lead four minutes into the game. As the 10 minute mark approach though, the Lady Saints had fought back and tied the game 11-11 off of a made free throw from senior forward Brandi Owen (Cornelia, Ga.). BPC retook the lead for the next five minutes and had a five point lead. Off of the 11 point first half effort from junior guard Dannisha Winfrey (Patterson, N.J.) the Lady Barons were able to keep North Georgia in check for much of the half.

With eight minutes left in the half though, the Lady Saints took the lead 27-26 off of a big three pointer from senior guard Katie Schleisman (Suwanee, Ga.). Schleisman had 10 in the half along with junior guard Katie Williamson (Suwanee, Ga.) who added 11 points. North Georgia had an 11 point lead with a minute and a half left in the first and went to the locker room with a 39-32 lead.

In the second half, the Lady Saints continued to put on an offensive show as they climbed out to a 34 point lead at one point. North Georgia shot 20-30 from the field and only had to take two shots from behind the three point arc. The Lady Saints broke through the Lady Barons press throughout the half to sink 19 lay-ups in the second.

With the win, North Georgia improves to 12-6 overall and a share of the conference lead with BPC as well as an 8-1 record in the Southern States Athletic Conference. The Lady Barons take their first loss of the season and fall 18-1 and 8-1 in the SSAC.

North Georgia will take the week off before they play #21 Lee University next Saturday at 3:00 p.m. January 22 is also Homecoming for NGCSU with activities kicking off at the beginning of the women's game. BPC will take the floor again this Thursday as they play Shorter College at home at 6:00 p.m.
