LADY SAINTS PICKED FIRST IN SSAC PRESEASON COACHES POLL
Dahlonega, Ga. - North Georgia College & State University have been picked to finish first in this years Southern States Athletic Conference preseason coaches poll.
The Lady Saints is picked to defend their conference crown this year and win their second straight conference title. North Georgia took 119 total points and nine of the 11 first place votes. Under the direction of 11th year head coach Buffie Burson , North Georgia finished last season ranked #8 in the nation with a 30-6 overall record and made their fifth consecutive trip to the NAIA national tournament. This season the Lady Saints are ranked #7 in the nation.
Auburn University Montgomery is picked to finish second with 110 points and had two first place votes. AUM finished last season 25-8 and was co-champions with North Georgia in the regular season. This season they are ranked 10th in the nation.
Newcomer Berry College is third in the poll with 91 points. The Lady Vikings finished last season 22-12 overall and advanced to the semifinals of the TransSouth Conference Tournament.
Brewton Parker College is picked fourth with 83 points followed by the other SSAC newcomer Lee University, who is picked fifth with 82 points. Shorter College is slated to finish sixth in the conference with 68 points.
The final five positions selections are Reinhardt College, Emmanuel College, Georgia Southwestern University, Southern Polytechnic State University, and Southern Wesleyan University.
North Georgia's season begins Friday as they take on Brevard College in Mt. Vernon, Ga. in the Brewton-Parker College Classic. The first home game of the season is November 11 as the Lady Saints take on Claflin University at 6:00 pm.
