MEGAN HUFFMAN NAMED SSAC FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR
Lady Saints Place Six on All-Conference and All-Academic Teams

Rome, Ga. – North Georgia College & State University freshman guard Megan Huffman (Woodstock, Ga.) was selected as the Southern States Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year by the coaches of the SSAC. Huffman, and five other Lady Saints, were awarded tonight at the 2004-2005 SSAC awards ceremony hosted by Berry College.

Huffman was a two-time selection for conference Player of the Week this season and averaged 12.8 points per game and averaged the second most minutes of any player on the Lady Saints team her freshman season. She was second on the team in assists with 85 and steals with 35. Huffman led the team in scoring in seven times this season and averaged 13.5 points per game against conference opponents.

Huffman was selected to the All-Freshman team and the All-Conference team along with senior forward Brandi Owen (Cornelia, Ga.) and junior guard Katie Williamson (Suwanee, Ga.). Owen led the team in scoring all season long and was ranked in the nation in scoring this season as well. Averaging 16.1 points per game in the regular season, she led the team in scoring in 12 games and scored a season high 27 points in a 72-63 win over Lee University on January 22. Owen led the team in almost every offensive statistical category as well as being the Lady Saints top rebound grabber. Owen also reached a career milestone this year after scoring her 1000 th point against Southern Wesleyan University on February 19.

Williamson is currently second in the nation in free throw percentage after shooting 89.7% from the charity stripe this season. At one point, she connected with 30 straight free throws and now holds the record for most free throws made in a single game with 14 and free throw percentage in a season. Williamson is the second leading scorer on the team and leads the team with 123 assists this season.

Owen and Williamson also joined junior forward Jeanine Dorminey (Tifton, Ga.) and freshman forward Jenica Johnson (Lilburn, Ga.) who were named to the All-Academic team. Dorminey currently is eighth in the nation in blocks and leads the conference in the same category with 58 blocked shots. She also holds the all-time record at North Georgia for blocked shots and is averaging 7.6 points per game.

Johnson played in 27 games this season and averaged 4.1 points per game and 2.2 rebounds per game. She scored a career-high 15 points against Savannah College of Art & Design on November 26 and has shot 45% from the floor this season.

The Lady Saints captured a second straight conference title this season after going 18-2 in the conference and 22-7 overall. North Georgia is currently ranked 10 th in the nation and will make an amazing seventh straight trip to the NAIA National Tournament in Jackson, Tennessee.
