#16 SAINTS STAY UNBEATEN IN SWEEP OF WOLVES
North Georgia allows just one run in pair of wins
Game 1 | Game 2
DAHLONEGA, GA – The 16th-ranked North Georgia College & State University softball team stayed undefeated on the season with an 8-1 win in game one and 8-0 win in game two over visiting University of West Georgia Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action.
In game one, North Georgia got a huge offensive performance from Courtney McGuire who put up three hits in four attempts and drove in a pair of runs. Two runs in the first frame is all the Saints would need, but they put their powerful offense on display in the late innings, scoring two more in the fifth and four in the sixth for the seven run victory. Tiffany Blackburn had a hit on two trips as she drove in four runs in the game.
Sarah Phillips (4-0) proved she deserved the Peach Belt Conference pitcher of the week, throwing a complete game, allowing just two hits and one run while striking out six for her fourth straight win to start the season.
In game two, the Saints jumped out in front early and never looked back in route of the Wolves. Blackburn and Jessica skeels each notched RBI hits in the first inning as North Georgia grabbed the early 2-0 lead for starting pitcher Nicole Adkison (2-0) who tossed a complete game shutout.
The Saints added runs again late with two in the fourth, a single run in the fifth, and three more in the sixth to end the game. Skeels wrapped up a two hit performance with her first triple of the season, driving in three runs to give North Georgia the 8-0 six inning victory.
North Georgia (8-0) will return to action at the UAH Charger Chillout this weekend as more than 20 teams are assembing for one of the biggest tournaments of the year. The Saints are slated to play a pair of games on each day of the three day tournament.
