SAINTS BLANK MERRIMACK IN PAIR OF WINS
North Georgia to host Moe's Classic over the weeked
Game 1 | Game 2
DAHLONEGA, GA – North Georgia College & State University used a pair of solid pitching performances and a long ball in each contest to get by Merrimack College 8-0 in game one and 3-0 in game two Thursday evening in non-conference action.
In game one, Tiffany Blackburn got the Saints on the board with a line drive up the middle for the first hit of the game, bringing Laura Voyles home to score who led off the game with a walk.
In the second, Merrimack picked up a leadoff triple from Courtney Garner, but North Georgia starter Ansley Anderson recorded a groundout, strikeout, and combacker to the mound to get out of the frame without any damage.
After a passed ball plated a run for the Saints in the third, North Georgia loaded the bases with two outs for Krista Bess who sent a ball off the fence in left-center, clearing the bases and plating three more runs to make it 5-0.
With two quick outs in the fourth, Courtney McGuire and Leslee Smith produced back-to-back doubles to a plate a run, and Kaelin Farrington singled up the middle for another run, giving the Saints a 6-0 advantage. Kasey Knight followed with her second infield hit of the game, bringing Smith home and giving the home team a 7-0 fourth inning lead.
In the last of the sixth, McGuire led off with solo home run to left center, giving North Georgia the 8-0 game one win.
Ansley Anderson (3-0) remained perfect on the season, scattering seven hits in six innings to pick up the win.
In game two, the contest remained runless until the bottom of the fourth when an error led to a run, and Smith put North Georgia up by a pair with her third home run of the year, a solo shot to straight away center. Knight and McGuire added RBI's in the sixth as the Saints took the nightcap 4-0 to sweep the doubleheader.
Trisha Snider (4-2) picked up the win, tossing a complete shutout while allowing five hits and striking out six.
North Georgia (22-6, 7-3 PBC) will return to action tomorrow afternoon for day one of the Moe's Classic hosted by the Saints at the Softball Complex.
