NORTH GEORGIA SPLITS WITH FRANCIS MARION IN LAST ROAD GAME
Saints will honor Moss, Shubert, Kesler and Cobb on Tuesday afternoon

FLORENCE, S.C. – North Georgia College & State University scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning to upset 24th-ranked Francis Marion University 11-9 here in Peach Belt Conference action, salvaging a split in their final conference series of the season.

Trailing 7-6 heading into the seventh, the Saints scored five runs in the final two innings en route to the victory in the nightcap.  Brittany Cobb, playing her final road game for North Georgia, doubled off the left field fence to lead off the top of the seventh inning.  She advanced to third on a Whitney Propes sacrifice bunt, and then scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at 7-7.  The Saints took the lead when Leslee Smith was walked and was pinch run for by Laura Voyles who went to third on a Krista Bess single.  Voyles scored the go-ahead run when Bess was caught in a rundown between first and second to give North Georgia the 8-7 lead.

After Francis Marion scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game and send it to extra innings, the Saints scored three runs in the eighth for the victory.  Senior Brooke Kesler singled to centerfield with one out to start the inning for the Saints, and advanced to third on a wild pitch to put the go-ahead run at third base.  Cobb, once again doubled to left field, scoring Kesler to put North Georgia ahead 9-8.  Propes laid down another bunt, but this time reached base and put runners at second and third with just one out.  Smith reached on a throwing error, scoring both runs for an 11-8 lead.

Andrea Moss (22-10) received the victory after going seven innings in relief of starter Nicole Adkison.  The senior gave up five runs, four earned runs, on 10 hits while striking out eight.

Cobb went 3-for-4 with four runs batted in and three runs scored, while seven other Saints picked up hits in game two.

Meanwhile, Francis Marion scored a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to escape with a 1-0 victory in game one.

The Saints were held to three hits, while Moss held Francis Marion to four in the loss.
