DAVENPORT ANNOUNCES SOFTBALL SCHEDULE
Dahlonega, GA - North Georgia College & State University head softball coach Mike Davenport announced the 2007 schedule for the Saints this morning.
North Georgia, 24-20 last season in its first season of competition at the NCAA Division II level, will face eight non-conference opponents to go along with the nine conference match-ups they will have this season.
The Saints open the season on the road in Belmont, N.C. on February 16 against Belmont Abbey, before playing their first conference game on February 17 on the road against UNC Pembroke. The month of February is closed out when the Saints return home to face Erskine on the 20th, Lander on the 21st and West Georgia on the 27th.
North Georgia hits the road again in March, traveling to Catawba, N.C. for the Catawba Tournament on March 2-4. After a week off, the Saints hit the road for the Fun in the Sun Tournament in Bradenton, Fla. on March 9-11. While in Florida, North Georgia will also face Nova Southeastern on March 13 and Florida Gulf Coast on March 14. Davenport also scheduled West Georgia on March 20, Georgia Southwestern on March 23 and USC Aiken on March 25 -- all on the road in the month of March. The Saints return home to close out the month on March 27 against Augusta State before hosting the Fire Mountain Classic on March 30. The tournament runs through April 1 and will feature the likes of Augusta State, King College, Northern Kentucky, Florida Gulf Coast and Lincoln Memorial.
The month of April features four home games and a tournament to close out the regular season. The Saints host USC Upstate on April 3, Columbus State on April 5, Armstrong Atlantic on April 9 and Mount Olive on the final day of the regular season - April 17. In the middle of the home games are three away games, featuring King College on April 7, Georgia College & State University on April 11 and Francis Marion on April 15.
The Saints will host their second tournament April 13-14, featuring USC Aiken, Lander and Southern Indiana.
