SAINTS DOMINATE FALCONS 14-0 AND 13-0

Dahlonega, Ga. – North Georgia College & State University softball overpowered St. Augustine’s College in their double-header this afternoon at the Saints Softball Complex winning 14-0 and 13-0.

The Saints (12-12) immediately took charge over the Falcons (2-16) in the bottom of the first inning.  Sophomore Candace Shubert and senior Lynsey Thompson were the first to score when sophomore Krista Bess tripled to left field.  Then, Bess scored off a wild pitch to give North Georgia a 3-0 lead.  A six-run inning in the second was highlighted by senior Lara Seamon’s three-run homerun to bring in junior Brooke Kesler and Shubert.  In the third frame, junior Danielle Rainey asserted herself as a pinch hitter with a two RBI double scoring freshman Page Raynor and Kesler.  Rainey later scored off an RBI single from Thompson.  The fourth saw more aggressive hitting from the Saints as Rainey mirrored her third inning appearance with another two RBI double giving the Saints the 14-0 victory.

Starting sophomore pitcher Rachel Bridges pitched a perfect game, facing only 15 batters in five innings, and tallying nine strikeouts to her season record.  Alyce Wesley took the loss for the Falcons.

The second match-up again showed the Saints hard-hitting ability.  North Georgia jumped to a 5-0 lead in the first using two walked batters and three wild pitches.  Seamon singled to bring in two of the five runs and tallied her fifth RBI of the afternoon.  With two outs in the third, the Saints went on another six-run rally with four consecutive singles by Brittany Cobb, Bess, Meigan Grimm, and Tootie JohnsonRachel Norris knocked her second double of the game and third RBI.  Bridges also made an appearance at the plate scoring the final run of the game giving North Georgia the 13-0 win.

Starting pitcher Bridges pitched the first two innings adding three more strikeouts to the day’s total.  Sophomore Brittany Barnes made her deput pitching the final three innings and striking out four to control the Falcon’s offense.  Falcon’s Chrishauna Thomas received the loss.

The Saints next play Tuesday on the road against Anderson College at 5:00 p.m.
