SAINTS SHUTOUT LADY ROYALS IN DOUBLE-HEADER SWEEP

Dahlonega, Ga. – North Georgia College & State University used a solo home run by Lara Seamon to take game one 2-0 and a five-run sixth inning to steal game two 8-0 from Queens University.

In game one, North Georgia (22-14) struck first with a one out homerun by senior Lara Seamon over the right field wall to give the Saints a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. For Seamon, it was her sixth home run and 28th RBI of the season.

The Saints rallied again in the bottom of the fifth inning with a one out triple from second baseman Tootie Johnson. Brooke Kesler followed with a double to right center that plated Johnson for her 18th RBI of the season. The RBI double gave the Saints a 2-0 lead that would stand up against the Lady Royals.

Saints starting pitcher, Rachel Bridges, went the distance and allowed only three hits in the win. Bridges improves her record to 10-7 on the year. Meg Barker was tagged with the loss for Queens University as she gave up only two runs but drops to 17-5 on the season.

In game two, the Saints got on the board first when Krista Bess led off the bottom of the first inning with a bunt single. After she stole second, Lynsey Thompson hit a liner off the left field wall to score Bess and give the Saints a 1-0 lead.

North Georgia continued the onslaught in the second inning with RBI’s from Kesler and Page Raynor that scored Thompson and Seamon to give the Saints a 3-0 lead.

The Lady Royals threatened in the top of the third inning with a runner on third and two outs, but Saints pitcher Dana Lowery struck out senior Erin Crager for the second out and got right fielder Ricci Coultas to ground out to conclude the inning.

In the sixth inning, the Saints added 5 insurance runs that included a single by Kesler that scored Meigan Grimm and Seamon to give the Saints a 6-0 lead.  The game was called after Bess lined to left to score Kesler and give North Georgia an 8-0 victory.

Lowery pitched a complete game shutout to improve her record to 8-4 on the season. Shea Chaffee was on the short end as she picked up the loss and fell to 4-5 on the year. North Georgia returns to action on Monday, April 10th, as they will welcome Clark-Atlanta for a double-header starting at 6:00 p.m.
