NORTH GEORGIA SWEEPS ANDERSON IN SOFTBALL
Dahlonega, Ga. – North Georgia College & State University jumped out to an early lead in both game of the double header as the Saints defeated Anderson University 9-0 and 12-4 in softball action Sunday afternoon.

A six run first inning spurred the Saints (7-3) to a 9-0 victory in game one of the double header. A lead off double from sophomore left fielder Krista Bess got North Georgia rolling as the Saints recorded six runs off of six hits in the first. Sophomore third baseman Brittany Barnes singled in Bess for the first run of the game. Barnes then scored off of an RBI single off the bat of senior first baseman Lara Seamon. The hits kept coming after freshman designated player Meigan Grimm singled to drive in two more runs. Junior catcher Brooke Kesler brought in the final run of the inning on a ground out fielders choice. North Georgia added a run in the third inning and scored two more in the fourth to go up 9-0.
Nine runs was more than enough for junior starting pitcher Danielle Rainey (1-0) as she pitched a one hit complete game in her first start of the season. Rainey pitched all five innings with only two walks and six strikeouts. Lady Trojans (8-12) sophomore starter Fallon Downs (2-2) did not fare as well as she allowed eight earned runs off of 13 hits in four innings of work.

Game two saw the Saints jump out to a lead in the first inning once again. Bess slapped a lead off double for the second game in a row and North Georgia rolled out to a 4-0 advantage. Four more runs were added in the second inning with Bess sparking the rally once again. Three hits later, the Saints found themselves up 8-0 and in command of the ball game.
Down 8-0, the AU bats woke up in the top of the third inning as they put three runs on the board. Sophomore right fielder Melissa Carmichael knocked a single and later scored on a fielder’s choice. Freshman catcher Kayla Williams then blasted a two run homer over the left field fence to cut the North Georgia lead to 8-3.
The Saints rallied right back in the bottom of the third as they put three runs on board to go back up by eight runs. The Lady Trojans were able to add one more run in the fifth inning, but a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth inning allowed senior shortstop Lynsey Thompson to score and close out the ball game.
Junior starter Dana Lowery (5-1) picked up her fifth win of the season after going three innings and allowing only three earned runs with two strikeouts. North Georgia sophomore reliever Rachel Bridges pitched three innings of relief and struck out four batters while scattering three hits. Junior starter Stephanie Griffis (3-7) took the loss for AU after allowing 10 earned runs off of 12 hits in five innings of work.

Thompson led the Saints at the plate, going 6-for-7 with five runs and three RBI’s on the day. Williams was the catalyst for the Lady Trojans offense with a home run, three RBI’s, and one run scored.
North Georgia will play their second conference series on Tuesday as they head down to Savannah for a double header against Armstrong Atlantic State University at 1:00 p.m. AU will take to the field again tomorrow at Carson-Newman College for a 2:00 p.m. double header.
