PIRATES SWEEP NORTH GEORGIA, 3-2 and 8-4

Savannah, Ga. - Jeana Short and the Armstrong Atlantic softball squad gave head coach Ted Evans his first Peach Belt sweep as the Pirates defeated North Georgia, 3-2 and 8-4, at the AASU Softball Field on Tuesday afternoon.

The Pirates (11-7, 4-2 PBC) cut into a 2-0 lead on a Jeana Short solo home run in the fourth inning of game one, then pushed across two runs in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Danielle Bertram and an RBI single by Ashley Bain. North Georgia loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth, needing just one run to tie, but Koening-Eng induced a 1-2-3 double play ball by Meigan Grimm and then got Krista Bess to fly out to center to end the game.

AASU jumped ahead in game two by plating three runs in each of the first two innings, then freshman Pam Bykowski hurled five innings of one-run relief to pick up the win, 8-4. Short struck again with a solo home run for the Pirates and finished the doubleheader with a perfect five hits in five at-bats with three RBI and three runs scored.

AASU returns to action on Wednesday, March 8, as the Pirates host Tampa at 1:00 at the AASU softball field. North Georgia will travel to Hawaii on March 14 to face Chaminade University in a doubleheader beginning at 4:30.
