#11 SAINTS SWEEP LADY WARRIORS IN SSAC SOFTBALL OPENER
Beth Willis Pitches No Hitter

Dahlonega, Ga. – Allowing only two hits in the double header, the #11 North Georgia College & State University pitching staff shut down Southern Wesleyan University and the bats knocked in 16 runs as the Saints won 8-0 in five innings in the first game and 8-0 in six innings in the second game.

The North Georgia softball team also honored North Georgia men who had served in combat operations between games for Military Appreciation Day. NGCSU Assistant Commandant, Major Richard Neikirk , recognized NGCSU Military Department staff and ROTC cadets who had served in the first Gulf War, Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and other military campaigns. North Georgia softball and athletic department thanks all the men and women who have served our nation in the armed forces.

Game 1

Senior starting pitcher Beth Willis (Williamson, Ga.) only allowed on batter to reach base as she set down 15 batters in rout to a no hitter. Willis, current Southern States Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week , went five innings of work and struck out seven batters. With the win she improved her record to 6-2 overall this season.

The Saints (11-6, 2-0) bats pounded out 11 hits and eight runs in five innings. Four North Georgia hitters went two-for-three from the plate with senior catcher Katie Thrasher (Arnoldsville, Ga.) leading the way with three RBI's and one run scored. Freshman third baseman Brittany Barnes (Lawrenceville, Ga.) also preformed well with two RBI's and two runs scored.

Game 2

In the second game, the Saints pitching and hitting dominated the Lady Warriors (3-16, 0-2) once again in the 8-0 win. Junior first baseman Lara Seamon (Richfield Springs, N.Y.) belted out her fourth home run of the year and senior second baseman Annie Ball (Marietta, Ga.) also blasted a home run. Freshman centerfielder Brittney Cobb (Oxford, Ga.) went three-for-four from the plate with one run and two RBI's.

Freshman starter Rachel Bridges (Lexington, Ga.) won her third game of the season and dropped her ERA to 1.78. She also struck out nine batters in six innings of work and allowed only two hits. SWU senior starter Ashlee Frazier (Meridian, Miss.) took the loss after allowing six earned runs and striking out one batter.

The Saints play again tomorrow as they face the University of Mobile for the first two games of the Caruso's Classic hosted by NGCSU. The first pitch is at 4:00 p.m. for the double header.
